TE MURIWAI MARAE WORKING BEE

This Saturday 19th & Sunday 20th at the pā e te whānau 9am - 3pm (can go later of course) both days, come out both days if you can or one day, or half a day or 3 hours if that works for you, we appreciate it all, ka pai!

Pot Luck Lunch, bring something to chuck on the table ka pai!

There are a number of jobs to do; if you have gear to help with any of the following please bring it along.

TO NOTE - the marae does NOT have equipment we are the marae we have what we have so bringing your resources will help us out a lot NGĀ MIHI!

JOBS LIST; (there are more)
- clear broken furniture out of the barn.
- clean the barn, re-organise gear for pack down.
- clear out back silver shed & sort, organise or dump any broken gear.
- clean out Storeroom & sort, re-organise.
- clear gutters on the wharenui & tidy up gardens, sort at the back of wharenui, broken furniture, old mops etc.
- sort through meat room, kitchen cupboards, shelves, fireplace room any gear to be sorted out, re-organised, re-allocated.
- Hangi shed organised.
- Waieri Marae, assess, sort, tidy up (Aunty Sarah will tell us what’s needed here, so only on her instructions, if she says all good, kei te pai).
- Toilets on kitchen side any tidy up, clean up (non-plumbing) fix up possible.
- prune trees, clear rubbish, clean cupboards, wash down walls, PAINT?? Does anyone have any leftover paint around you would like to donate to the pā?? just a spruce up of some areas around the pā.

There are LOTS more jobs to do as well too many to mention. What we need are the hands (with own gear) to do it all please & THANK YOU!

We have ordered a SKIP for the marae (only) rubbish, but will only throw out anything that is broken or can’t be used again.

Ka pai whānau if you think of anything else (within our capabilities please just let me know) our main focus is a tidy up, clear out, ready for the pack down & the refurbishments to start.

If you have time either days please come along whānau WE NEED YOUR HELP, more hands, less work.

Due to the marae renovations starting sometime during the month of January, for health and safety reasons our Tāmanuhiri Day celebrations will now take place at Te Kura o Te Muriwai. We are grateful to the kura and BOT for the use of the kura facilities so that we can continue our celebrations.

Don't forget to register your team for Toa Tāmanuhiri - Top Town! You will want to get in quick as we are only looking for 8 teams. Thanks to those teams who have registered already.

When – Saturday, January 30th, 2021
Time – 8am-4pm
Where – Te Kura o Te Muriwai, Te Muriwai, Gisborne
We are looking for 8 TEAMS for Toa Tāmanuhiri - Top Town, so gather up your troops and register you team. Remember your team MUST HAVE:
• A minimum of EIGHT MEMBERS
• Up to FIFTEEN MEMBERS
• 1x 50+ year old
• 1x 30-40 year old
• 1x under 10 year old
• 1x team facilitator/captain
• Team uniform

To register your team please send us a PM or email us trust@tamanuhiri.iwi.nz with a list of your team members and their date of births.

MĀORI EDUCATION TRUST SCHOLARSHIPS 2021

The Māori Education Trust 2021 Scholarship Programme is open and offers scholarships to Māori secondary school and tertiary students who meet the respective scholarship’s criteria. 
 
The 2021 Tertiary Scholarship Programme is made up of the following scholarships:

  • Awhina Nursing Scholarship (Undergraduate) Available to full-time Māori undergraduate students enrolled at the UCOL Palmerston North campus and are in their second or subsequent year of study for a Bachelor of Nursing.
  • Eric Hall McCormick Scholarship (Postgraduate) Available to a Māori student undertaking research at postgraduate level in a field which is of significant benefit to Māori.
  • Frances Irwin Hunt Art Scholarship (Undergraduate) Available to full-time Māori undergraduate students studying in the fields of performing or cultural arts which may include, but not be limited to: dance, music, art, theatre/film.
  • Māori Education Trust Bachelor of Dental Surgery Scholarship (Undergraduate) Available to Māori undergraduate students who have completed their first year of a Bachelor of Dental Surgery.
  • Māori Education Trust Postgraduate Scholarship (Postgraduate) Available to Māori postgraduate students undertaking postgraduate study.
  • Māori Education Trust Postgraduate Scholarship: Hapū Or Iwi Development (Postgraduate) Available to Māori postgraduate students undertaking study in a field that will support the strategic interests and direction of their Hapū or Iwi.
  • Māori Education Trust Postgraduate Scholarship: STEM (Postgraduate) Available to Māori postgraduate students undertaking study in science (biology, chemistry, physics), technology, engineering or mathematics.
  • Māori Education Trust Undergraduate Scholarship (Undergraduate) Available to Māori undergraduate students who are in their second or third year of study in 2021.
  • Nicholas Irwin Hunt Writing Scholarship (Undergraduate) Available to full-time Māori undergraduate writers, with preference to those studying in the field of journalism.
  • Norman Kirk Memorial Scholarship (Undergraduate) Available to full-time Māori undergraduate students studying at a recognised New Zealand tertiary institute.
  • Queen Elizabeth II Post-Graduate Fellowship (Postgraduate) Available to a Māori or non-Māori graduate with excellent academic ability, who plans to research at postgraduate level, in a field that will benefit Māori.
  • Rangiriri and Mātene Te Whiwhi Winiata Scholarship (Postgraduate) Available to Māori graduates to enable them to complete postgraduate studies.
  • Regina Rudland Memorial Scholarship (Undergraduate) Available to a full-time Māori student of Ngāti Porou descent, undertaking study in the field of Agriculture or Apiculture at Level 3 or higher.
  • Rose Hellaby Bursaries Scholarship (Undergraduate) Available to full-time Māori undergraduate students studying to become qualified or employed in a profession or calling which includes scientific, mathematical or technical skills.
  • Rose Hellaby Postgraduate Scholarship (Postgraduate) These prestigious scholarships are available to Māori students with a record of proven academic excellence, undertaking Masters or PhD postgraduate study in the fields of engineering, mathematics, science, technology or medicine. Study can be carried out in New Zealand or overseas.
  • Roy Watling Mitchell Bursaries Scholarship (Undergraduate) Available to Māori undergraduate students who are in their second or third year of study in 2021.
  • Roy Watling Mitchell Prestigious Professions Scholarship (Postgraduate) Available to a Māori graduate with a record of academic excellence.
  • Sir Apirana Ngata Memorial Scholarship (Undergraduate) Available to a full-time Māori undergraduate student studying at a recognised New Zealand tertiary institute, who attended Ngata Memorial College as a Year 13 student in 2020.
  • Sir John Bennett Memorial Postgraduate Scholarship (Postgraduate – Honours or Masters) Available to Māori students who have completed a bachelor’s degree and are enrolled full-time in either a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) or Master’s degree.
  • Sir John Bennett Memorial PhD Scholarship (Postgraduate – PhD) Available to Māori students who have a Master’s or Honours degree and are enrolled in a PhD programme of study.
  • Sister Annie Henry Scholarship (in total, 1 available at secondary or tertiary level) Available to a Māori student who is a direct descendant of Reverend John George Laughton or of Tūhoe descent.
  • Tī Maru Māori Trust Scholarship (Undergraduate) Available to full-time Māori undergraduate students enrolled in their final year of study at a recognised New Zealand tertiary institute.
  • Tī Maru Māori Trust Prestigious Scholarship (Postgraduate) Available to Māori graduates with a record of academic excellence.

Te Whare Kōrero o Tāmanuhiri - Rangiwaho

Tēnā tātau e te whānau,

Te Whare Kōrero o Tāmanuhiri is a series of wānanga that look at capturing and sharing Tāmanuhiri Mātauranga and Tāmanuhiri Reo. This Friday evening and Saturday Te Whare Kōrero o Tāmanuhiri will be heading to Rangiwaho Marae. See the attached flyer for the draft programme.

If you wish to attend we do ask that you contact us at the Trust as spaces are limited. You can email trust@tamanuhiri.iwi.nz or send us a PM.

A couple of notes:
- On Saturday there will be a couple of hīkoi, so please come with appropriate footwear and clothing.
- The marae is available for those who are wanting to stay, however there are no shower facilities, therefore you will need to go to a whānau members whare to wash.
